What is the Meaning of Life?

When I was in my early twenties (I say this as if it was a long time ago), I was so determined to find the reason that I was put on this earth. Actually, it’s been more of a quest to discover why I didn’t remove myself from this planet when I tried. Perhaps my ability to follow through sucks, but I have told myself over the past 7 years that I didn’t take my life because my life meant something. I didn’t swallow the rest of those pills because there was a larger picture at play. There is a reason I am here, I am a crucial piece to the puzzle of life, or so I think?

But over the last 7 years, I have continued to struggle to find meaning for my life, and even of life itself. I’ve struggled to get out of bed in the morning. I’ve struggled to go to work. I’ve struggled to stay positive and tell myself that everything is how it’s supposed to be. I’ve looked at the people around me and felt as if I am the only one struggling to find a reason to keep moving forward. As if I’m the only one searching for something more. As if I’m the only one trying to fill this big black hole that I feel inside.

But I’m not!

We’re all searching for something. We’re searching for our next big break. We’re searching for a different job, a different house, a different partner. But behind all this searching for more things, stuff, and people, the one thing that we want most is MEANING! And we are hoping, pleading, and begging that more things and more people will give us greater meaning for OUR LIVES and for LIFE ITSELF. They will give us a greater sense of fulfillment and purpose. They will give us a cause to fight for and a will to live for. They will make us feel whole.

But they won’t!

So, if the meaning of life and the meaning of each of our individual lives isn’t caught up in more things and more people, than what is the meaning of life and how do we find more of it?

Well, I’ve come to learn recently, that meaning isn’t something you find. It’s not something you stumble upon. Meaning is something YOU GIVE! Meaning is something you create from within!

We give meaning to life, in OUR LIVES! We define our existence.

The meaning of life is to experience life in a way that you absolutely love. To experience what it means to live. To experience what it means to feel ALIVE!

The meaning of life is living as the truest and most authentic version of you!

The meaning of life is finding what sets your soul on fire and then using your flame to light other people’s wicks.

The meaning of life is loving the great times and finding the lessons in the tough times.

The meaning of life is joy, happiness, and gratitude.

The meaning of life is love! Love for yourself; love for others; love for THIS LIFE!

And we CREATE and GIVE THAT MEANING! It comes from inside of us, not from around us! It can’t be given to us by someone or something, we must GIVE IT TO OURSELVES!

A meaningful life is one where we GIVE meaning to EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING in our lives!

Pretty grand, isn’t it?

So, if you’ve ever felt like there must be more to life. If you’ve struggled to find meaning. I’ve been in the same boat, and the best advice I can give to you is to stop trying to FIND MEANING through people and things.

Start giving meaning instead!

I think the true meaning of life is life itself, and you find meaning in life by giving your life meaning!

Create it. Give it. Love it. Live it.

That’s the meaning of life. That’s what it means to live!

You are BEAUTIFUL. You are SMART. You are STRONG.

Comment down below what you think.

What does it mean to live? What makes a life meaningful? Is meaning something that we find, or do we just stumble upon it? Is it something that is pre-planned as part of a larger picture of our lives? What is the meaning of life, for OUR LIVES?

I have an unmeasured passion for life and living true to who I am. I have overcome depression and anxiety, low self-confidence and self-esteem, body image issues, and an eating disorder. Now, I am creating and living a life that I love while doing what sets my soul of fire; writing, exploring, deadlifting, and motivating others to create and live a life they love.
